Generac 5844 XG4000 4,000 Watt 220cc OHV Gas Powered Portable Generator With Wheel Kit (CARB Compliant)

Generac 5844 XG4000 4,000 Watt 220cc OHV Gas Powered Portable Generator With Wheel Kit (CARB Compliant) Description

Engineered for high performance, the professional-grade, CARB-compliant Generac XG4000 portable gas-powered generator (model 5844) is ideal for both residential and light commercial applications, providing a reliable 4,000-watt power supply wherever you need it and a maximum power output of 5,000 watts. The XG Series employs the Generac OHVI engine, which has a significantly longer life than competitive engines--up to an unprecedented three to four times longer.

Its compact design, smaller footprint, semi-solid, rally-style wheels and fold-down locking handles make this XG Series generator easier to transport. Additionally, its durable construction with oversized full-wrap frame tubing and impact resistant corners minimizes damage from rough handling. And all XG Series generators come with covered outlets for added protection from the environment and rugged working conditions, plus an hour meter to help track maintenance requirements.

Powerful, Long-Lasting OHVI Engine

The Generac OHVI (Overhead Valve Industrial) engine is the only engine designed specifically for generator use. Generators are often required to run for hours at a time, or even day after day. Engines adapted from other applications can overheat and may have shorter lifespans. It offers advanced heat reduction technology such as plateau-honed cylinders that lessen break-in time, plasma moly ring seals that help to keep excess oil out of the cylinder, and graphite piston inserts that provide a smoother surface for the piston to move against--all helping to contribute to a significantly longer engine life.

Maintenance costs are reduced with a spin-on automotive-style oil filter that's larger than a standard filter, catching more particles so oil stays cleaner for a longer amount of time. Service intervals are up to twice as long as competitive engines, approximately 2 years or 200 hours of operation.

Plenty of Wattage to Run a Full Range of Appliances

The Generac XG4000 supplies 4,000 output watts and 5,000 maximum watts (for start-up of devices). It has an A/C voltage of 120/240 and a frequency of 60 hertz.

For unexpected blackouts, this is enough wattage to run home appliances such as security systems, computers, and electric range tops. For construction and landscaping applications, it's enough to support devices such as trimmers, belt sanders, and circular saws. And for camping and outdoor events, it can run portable stereos, outdoor lights, and electric grills.

(Note: All appliances should be checked for actual wattage ratings.)

This generator's sturdy, 4.5-gallon steel tank ensures a full 13 hours of operation at a 50-percent load, letting you relax for hours of use. You can monitor fuel levels at a glance with the tank's built-in fuel gauge, while the unique lighted Power Bar displays available wattage. Its 120-volt outlets are circuit-breaker protected, guarding against power overloads and allowing the generator to smoothly send power to your appliances.

This generator is backed by a two-year limited residential warranty (one-year warranty for commercial applications).

100% HAPPY WITH IT.

The quality of this generator is way better than many of the others I have looked at in person. American made. I did find a wire disconnected that went to the on/off switch. I called customer service and a very nice young Lady sent me a PDF of the wiring diagram. I discovered the generator would have started, but would not have shut off as the sw applies a ground to the ign module. I verified the wires and plugged the wire in with no problems.
Also, take note. If you plan on making a double male ended extension cord (dangerous) and plugging it in to the 120V outlets to back feed your house, it will not work. It trips the GFI every time. Because on my house the Ground and nutral are tied together inside the breaker panel box. I do plan on using the 220V outlet to back feed my house using a generator inlet box in case of a long outage and I suspect this will work because the 220V outlet is not on a GFI.
I test ran the generator for about an hour with various loads and it worked flawlessly. It also did not seem to use much fuel. I purchase this one because it seemed to have an edge as far as fuel consumption (if you do the math).
I am 100% happy with this generator. It is full of stabilized fuel, covered and waiting for me when I need it to save the food in my refrigirator, freezer and to run a few lights and electronics.

Generac 4 kW generator, February 16, 2011 By C. Collins "Marvin" (Southern California)

I purchased this generator to replace one of a different brand which failed during a recent power failure. So far I am delighted with the Generac 4 kW replacement generator. It is a nice package size on wheels, easy to start, has good voltage regulation and not too noisy, 95 dB SPL at full load. 90 dB SPL with no load. Since purchasing this generator, there has not been another power failure during which I can give it a longer run under load. But my testing shows there should be no problem. Living in California required the purchase of a CARB (California Air Resources Board) compliant generator, which this one is.

Quiet, Well Made, August 25, 2010 By Been There "World Traveler" (San Francisco, CA USA)

Never having heard of Generac, we did some quick research before quickly ordering this. We were in a bind because our generator had just quit and we needed another one immediately. Being in California, there are restrictions on what kinds of generators one can buy. This one was made in the US, in Wisconsin. Being an Amazon Prime subscriber, I was able to get it delivered in one day. They air freighted it out of Tennessee and I got it the next day for just $3.99. On top of that, it was already on sale. The ease of purchase and delivery was amazing. But the quality was even more amazing. We'll probably buy only Generac's from now on. It was a bit difficult to find reasonable "generic" oil filters. The filters should be replaced every 50 hours, if I recollect correctly. But we finally located them online and ordered a half a dozen; just made sense with the shipping charges. This generator is quiet too. We have had it for a few months now and no problems at all.
