The generator arrived in about a week and performed as specified. I bought a lawnmower powered by Briggs and Stratton in 1987. It continues to start with one pull and that was the deciding factor when chosing a generator. I live rural, in the mountains of Western North Carolina where trees fall with every storm. The generator is supplying power to the house and a well pump that is 600 feet deep and 300 distance from the house.

Inexpensive Option for Diesel Generator, December 19, 2011 By Dr. Phillip L. Knapp (Colorado)
(REAL NAME)

I keep this gen around for backup in case of power outage .. we typically get 1 - 2 outages a year due to heavy snowfall ... of coarse since I've had this we've had none! I'm gonna get a snowblower to make sure it snows no more next year??!!

But seriously, I've run this for some power tools (only a small 4" grinder) at the end of the drive way, and it works great. When I first got it the Oil Filter was a bit bunged up from the factory .. looked like it was installed a bit crooked .. I emailed ETQ and they sent me out 2 new ones no charge very quickly. Make sure when you store it you pull the pull start cord until you feel sig resistance .. this will make sure both valves are closed and will keep moisture from accumulating in the Cyl.

Overall Very happy with it. I would have given it full stars ... but I just don't have enough "real time" hours on it to say for sure.

Tractor on.

very good generator, June 27, 2011 By Steve Jones (Belton, TX, US)

nothing but good things to say about this generator. Everything works. It starts easily. The wheels are large enough that it's very portable. All is good.

5,000 watts continuous--needs battery, June 3, 2010 By Ron PA

I just started it for the first time today and I think I'm about an average adult male and I managed to get it going with the recoil start--slow pull to compression stroke, depress decompression lever, two hands, foot on tire, get around that frame tube, pull hard. A few pulls to get a chug or two then increasingly more chugging time per pull until it was revving and dying continuously and belching smoke for a minute and then finally running steady with clear exhaust; probably clearing air from the fuel system caused all the roughness and smoke.

I didn't wear earplugs at first and noticed things were a little too quiet when I left the generator so I put some in.

It was 80*F today so I think it'll need a battery for cold weather; I see a "preheat" setting on the key-switch.--NO BATTERY INCLUDED--is conveniently omitted from the info. The manual recommends a battery of 36-38 amp/hours though I just got the most powerful battery that fit the tray. A supervisor at Lowe's wouldn't wave the $7 trade-in charge saying their generators came with batteries (nyaa, nyaa, nyaa for not buying ours), the jerk. Starting with the battery was quick and easy.

A sticker on the generator says 5,000 watts continuous so I'll consider that the real rating instead of the 5,500 sometimes claimed. If I remove the water heater fuses it should handle everything in the house though I'll need to restrict the stove/oven to single burner/heating element use.

I'm using regular home heating oil (from downstream of the filter) which in my area is presently formulated the same as offroad diesel fuel but I'll keep an eye out in case the EPA decides to reformulate that the way they did highway diesel.

Didn't need a key for recoil start but did for battery start and I couldn't find one in the nuts & bolts bag but found that my truck cap key worked and could be removed with the generator running.

Diesel engines are supposed to make very little carbon monoxide so I got 7' of 1.5" dia. steel flex-tube to plumb the exhaust into my flue and run it in my basement so scumbags can't snatch it from the yard the way they've done to others during catastrophes and also to make use of the heat in cold weather. Soundproofing will be desirable, and probably a CO detector.

The manual is somewhat confusing which is why I gave the generator 4 stars instead of 5, but it's not as bad as many chinese products and I know a little about engines so I think I'll manage the maintenance ok.

Where are the hurricanes, December 12, 2009 By Christopher J. Wallace "AmazonFan" (US and Europe)

Now I have a genset we have no Hurricanes!!!! I've powered up the gen a number of times, it's noisey but not crazy, it takes load very well and barely uses fuel.

Very good buy.

NOTE It comes with a cover.

Great Generator, May 19, 2009 By G. Wright
(REAL NAME)

Bought this generator without shopping around due to an emergency, but am very happy with my purchase. I didn't want a diesel generator, because I don't have anything else that runs on diesel, but this generator has changed my mind. The extended run time of a diesel generator over gasoline is reason enough to go with diesel. This thing runs for 12 hours on a 3 gallon tank of diesel! It is quite loud, but no more so than any other generator. I tried to run it in my detached garage, but the fumes quickly starved the generator for air and it died. This thing is a tank at 350 pounds, it is quite heavy. It runs both my sump pumps, fridge, lights, furnace, and television without a problem. My only complaint, and this is a small one, was that apparently they test them at the factory and then shipped them with diesel in the fuel line, which during shipping clogged the injectors, and initially it would not start. The dealer did replace the injector for free at purchase, and it runs great since then. I guess I would recommend monthly startups for maintenance to keep the injector clean, and it wouldn't hurt to add some diesel fuel additive.

And its oversized muffler is engineered to ensure quiet operation that blends into the background.

The HW7500E also offers a convenient fuel gauge, low-oil protection, and overload protection, letting you focus on your life rather than running the generator itself. It even comes with the first liter of oil and a funnel.

Awesome, buy now, wont regret it, October 31, 2011 By Ayesha A. Khan "umm_m_m" (01844) (REAL NAME)

This is an amazing product.
We loose power very often in North East due to storms knocking down power lines and trees.
The generator starts the first time every time.
The self start battery charges itself when used. The push button start is amazing.
3 of my friends have borrowed it multiple times when they lost power, they loved it.
They ran it for days (maybe 3-5) each multiple times and it ran flawlessly.
My sister bought one for her own house, and it runs flawlessly.

I would give it 10 out of 10.

It is not that heavy, does not require maintenance. Just put gas and hit the start button. Thats it.
Right now 3Million people do not have electricity in North East. But this generator is humming along at our friends house.
It also hummed along at my sister's house until they got main power back from the street.
In the middle of the storm they lost power, I started their generator for them and thats it. They got their life back as if nothing happened.

It produces enough power to power our 1.5 HP sump pump, all blowers for heating units, 4 rooms, TV, modems, routers, garage doors, septic pump, well water pump, all safety equipment for heat and hot water, all at the same time.

Great product. Highly recommend it
High Fives to the entire engineering team who designed this.

Great Purchase
, September 8, 2011 By Amazon Newbie
Assembled easily although it was missing one of the axle brackets. I contacted Honeywell and they said they would ship one out to me once they got some. Haven't receive that yet but I just held the axle in place with a piece of wire for the time being. Started right up and ran well. Haven't tried it with any load yet. Not what I would consider quiet as one person had reviewed it. I would recommend to others. The part I was interested in was that it had the inverter that items actually get power from instead of just the generator so hopefully there won't be any brown outs or power spikes.

Great deal for the money
, February 24, 2011 By Todd S.

I bought my generator in February 2011. It took exactly one week to arrive. The ABF truck delivered on time but I had to help unload. They called in advance to let me know that their lift truck was broke and would be a few days late so I said I would help unload. The driver carted it to my garage and helped unpack and inspect for any damage. The generator was fine but the box had seen better days. It had a hole punched in it and the bottom flaps were loose.
Issues I had with assembly was with the wheel axel. One of the brackets came loose from the packaging and got stuck in the bottom of the box flap. I was ready to call the manufacturer when I decided to go thru every one more time. Luckily it did not fall out of the box during shipping. I had to make a trip to my local hardware store because I was missing two of the washers that go on either side of the wheels. Everything else during assembly went well. I don't understand why they send that small funnel. The only way that thing would work is if you laid the machine on it's side and add the oil that way. Like all the reviews said, a long funnel works best. Adding the fuel was a challenge also. Because the gas opening is in the middle of the tank, my gas can nozzle can not reach it without spilling all over the place. A large, tall funnel works well for refueling.
Of course the battery was dead but this thing started on the first pull! I let it run for twenty minutes and this was enough to charge the battery to start it the second time. Overall, a very good machine for the money.

Perfect standby home generator. Starts easy. Comes up to voltage and frequency fast. Voltage is steady. Will accept typical house motor loads and recovers quickly. Good quality. Great value.

Reliable Generator
, January 29, 2011 By Robert Randall "Bob R." (Maryland)
(REAL NAME)

I bought this generator and a transfer kit package to provide backup power to our home. The generator came shipped in good shape and was easy to set up. The only bad things I see with the generator and its design is the placement of the place you put the oil ad the cheapness of some of the parts. I know I bought a lower cost generator compared to Honda's, etc ... so I expected some cheaper parts, but the opening for the oil is VERY hard to access without a funnel. Really poor design by Honeywell. Now here are the plusses: since some of the parts are a little cheaper, I put the generator under a tailgating tent when I have a power failure in my home to avoid rain or snow getting on the generator. Some of the parts will corrode rather quickly due to cheap components, so it is best to protect them the best you can. I have to say I have used to generator about 4 times since I have had it, and this past week we had a power outtage in a snow storm for abut 48 hours. The generator performed perfectly. It ran straighte for 48 hours with no issues. The fuel economy was suprisingly good! It would run easily overnight for 8+ hours without running low on gas (and with minimal load of course) and it kept our heat running all night long. During the day we run a lot of things: Heat and hot water heater (both Oil powered), sump pump, septic system, well pump, 1 refrigerator, all of the lights and outlets in our kitchen (no range), the family room lights and TV, select lights throughout the house, and our alarm system. You cant go wrong for the price! just take care of the generator, change the oil, and keep it out of the elements and I think it will last a long time!

I purchased this generator and it was delivered on schedule by freight. it was easy to put together and the following day the generator was put into action. An auto accident down the street caused an outage for approx one hour. The generator started right up and ran great. Since then I used it again for another snow related outage. As generators go this one is pretty quiet. Happy I purchased this unit.

It's saved us a couple times already. Extended power outages waste food. This will nearly power our whole house, including two refrigerators and a freezer.

Love this unit, February 22, 2011 By Craneguy

I purchased the 7500 watt surge to 13,500 watt same unit much older. Got the unit week before hurricane Katrina glad I did! We were out of power for 36 days between this unit, and one a little lower in wattage we have survived power outages in comfort. I use mobil 1 10w30 full synthetic changed every 75 to 100 hours this paticular unit has over 600 hours on it since 2005 only problem I had was with dirty fuel would reccomend this unit to friends, and family [got this unit for parents].I run the whole house with exception of hot water heater, oven and dryer my house is total electric. This unit is worth it's weight in gold to me.

quality,great price, September 23, 2009 By pat

I couldn't be happier with this item. It was easy to put together and to run for the first time. I had my house wired for emergency power and the electricians said this was a fantastic generator. They also told me that the price I paid was really good. Even when everything was online the generator didn't bog.It is a little loud but not excessively so.I would tell anyone it is a great deal and runs very well.I am a true believer in the quality of Briggs & Stratton. I have a lawn mower that is 35 years old and still going strong

(REAL NAME)

We have had our generator for close to a year now and it has never failed to do what it is needed to do. I have to say that we are happy campers indeed. It is extremely important that we have equipment that can handle heavy and persistent work loads at times. We have to rely on this generator completely in our wilderness off the grid location when there is inadequate solar gain to power our home and pump our water. We use ours every single day at times. This unit works so well that THREE of our neighbors have bought the exact some model for use at their own places after seeing ours in action. I have heard absolutely no complaints... only raves from all of them. I'm not sure why some others here have had issues... but none of us have.

Simple reliable generator, March 30, 2009 By TGW "gwtexas" (Carthage, TX)

After substantial experinece in helping people in the aftermath of hurricanes, I saw that hurricane Ike was about one week out from my house inland and decided I would not be one of those poor saps without a generator when the power went out. I went to every store around 50 miles of my house before I finally found a generator. It happened to be briggs and stratton elite series with 8000 running watts. It was the only one left and I knew it, so I bought it reluctantly from a tractor supply store in Texas. Well, after a week of having my power out from hurrican Ike I was thrilled with it. Heck, I was even able to watch dvd's on my TV, and that was while I had the comfort of knowing my refrigerator/freezer was running along with fans to keep the heat down. It is dirt simple to use, it is rugged, and the only minor complaint I would make is it about as loud as a riding lawn mower. That really isn't terrible though considering that it is a pretty powerful generator as "portable" units go. Thanks Briggs and Stratton, you never let me down.

Great Generator, Problems with Starting It, November 14, 2008 By RC Frederick

A great generator for the jobsite and home use. My order arrived on time and generator set up was fast and easy. But after putting the generator together, I could not get it started. After checking all the trouble shooting suggestions on the Briggs and Stratton website, I called customer service...they finally suggested I take it to one of their authorized dealers (15 miles away). The problem: the delivery company tilted the generator/container on it's side during delivery, oil from the engine dripped into the air filter stopping air flow. No air flow, no start. A simple fix once identified. Cost: a new air filter and time away from the job. Briggs and Stratton: Great website, customer service and product.

Darkness no more!, April 7, 2008 By Kevin Nicholls "jaded, aging hipster" (Milford, MI)
(REAL NAME)

Amazon had an incredible price on this when I bought it, and I couldn't be happier.

About a week after I placed my order, the delivery company wheeled it straight in to my garage (for free!) and setting it up took about 10 minutes by myself.

After doing some research, I learned that using synthetic 5W-30 oil was best in weather that's below 40F (which describes Michigan for about half of the year). I dropped a quart in, added some gas, and the generator fired right up.

I did notice what sounded like misfiring, as another reviewer noted. However, as soon as I added an electric load, it went away immediately. After talking to some other generator owners, I found out that this is normal, and leaving a generator running with no load is typically not recommended.

Overall, I couldn't be happier with this purchase. I dare the elements to stand up to me now!

Great price on a great generator, March 12, 2008 By Jeff Bollinger "runner1960" (missouri usa)

I just recieved my new generator today. Amazon delivery was amazing. The truck line called. backed up to my door at my convienience, and me and the driver had it off the truck in less than 5 minutes. Keep in mind this is a 2 person job. Adding to the plus for the delivery is that it was absolutly free.

It took me a total of 10 minutes to install the wheels, support bracket, attach the battery cable(yes it does come with the battery installed),fill with the supplied oil and put in some gas. One little choke and the unit fired off a lot sooner than I anticipated. I ran some electrical power tools to make sure the unit was putting out power and they all worked flawlessly. I searched far and wide untill I settled on this unit. The Vangaurd engine ( built by mitsubishi according to The Briggs rep I talked to) was the major selling point. It is quieter than many larger generators and can ramp up to a 13500 watt surge. Im not hoping for a power outage , but I sure would like to put this baby to the test. I might just throw my transfer switch tomorrow and see what it can do. Very happy at this point A

Great value for the price, January 24, 2012 By Brian R. Hurley "Indy constructor" (Indianapolis, Indiana)
(REAL NAME)

Purchase my Champion 2000 watt at Sams Club in Indianapolis Indiana, for $299 + tax and it is fantastic. I took ten minutes to read the excellent manual, filled with oil and gas and it started second pull. I am a contractor and have used it during the last 2 weeks on several projects where 11v was not available. It has two 110v outlets and provided steady power for a large hammer drill and other tools without missing a beat. Its built very well and the design prevents most of the generator from damage and rain. It has low noise levels even when its not idling in econ mode. Manual has a large parts list and I expect the service/help to match the products quality.

Honda & Yamaha watch out!, January 4, 2012 By Kevin (Los Angeles, CA)

I purchased this generator from Costco for use with my Coach when dry camping. Much cheaper to run than my larger on board diesel generator. I was unable to use this right out of the box. After a quick call to Champion Power, I had it up and running after having to make a short pig-tail due to the floating ground in portable generators. So far, this generator has been able to power my inverter/charger in Bulk mode, Coffee Maker as well as our 1800 watt Microwave/Convection oven (I had to make sure that charger was turned off first, no other loads were on during this test.) This generator has just as much power as my friends EU2000i. My only regret is that I did not purchase this sooner. For the money, I would rather buy two of these and link them together for double the power of the EU2000i. This generator should save me over $20 a day from running my diesel generator. I figure it will pay for itself the first year. BTW, the customer support at Champion is EXCELLENT! Can the same thing be said about Yamaha and Honda?

Great gens for the money!, December 14, 2011 By Kozz

I was lucky enough to be able to get two of these at Sams Club for $299 each as they lower the price as their stock dwindles.I also picked up the Parallel kit($59 at Costco) to combine the two units power .These were purchased mainly to power our new Toy Hauler/RV when "dry camping". They are impressively quiet!Just as quiet as my buddies Honda 2000i.One does the job but have to run two for 15,000 btu a/c.That's exactly what I expected.Power management is key with any unit like these...power up largest items to "running watts" first and then down to smaller items. To me the units work flawless and along with the gens from Sams, I bought their extended 3 yr. warranty which even covers "normal wear and tear" for $39 a unit.4 years bumper to bumper warranty!I have used Sams warranty in the past and its been great. So,out the door was for the two units, parallel kit,ex. warranty $700!I am the proverbial "Happy Camper"!Great product even at 500-600 bucks a unit considering the other options out there.

Qiet, reliable, economical, December 6, 2011 By juliannah

We purchased this generator for our 29' trailer. I run computer equipment, printers, television and more and it has been reliable and economical. I especially like the econ mode. We can run it up to 9hrs without adding gas. It runs quiet too. Our camping neighbors come by to look at it because it is so quiet. It is also light enough where I can move it when my husband is not around. It is also carb compliant, which is difficult to find a generator with all these qualities and at an affordable price.

One of the best items I've ever bought for camping!, November 24, 2011 By mr.wings

My wife and I have done a lot of research before we finally decided to take the risk to get this no name brand inverter generator. I was very skeptical and was ready to send it right back if it turned out to be as bad as some reviewers rated this generator.
But here I am, sitting under the stars dry camping in the beautiful Californian Desert to write this review: electricity provided by the amazing Champion 2000! This thing does exactly what it is advertised to do: It generates up to 2000 Watts starting power, and can handle continuous loads of 1600 Watts with no problem. My wife has a 1800 Watts hair dryer as well as a 1800 Watts iron. The generator has no problems with it. It starts right up every time, and the fuel economy is astounding. It runs up to 16 hours on 1 gallon in economy mode. It is quiet. With a long extension cord running in economy you don't hear more than a humming sound outside. We have had it for about 100 hours of running time, and I have done an oil change as recommended. That was all I had to do so far. This is one of the best investments we have made so far for our camping trips! Highly recommended!

Great unit, November 9, 2011 By dave

Bought two of these. The first fired up right away and worked great. Ran our pump for the house heating, fridge, two full fish tanks with heaters, and a bunch of lights. 10 hours on a tank and fairly quiet. A brilliant little machine that is easy enough to start that my 9 year old daughter was able to do it. The second wouldn't run everything. Bummed about that, but tech support is working with me and has assured me they will take care of this, so all in all a great product.

Great Value, Quiet, November 6, 2011 By MattW

I bought this generator to power a 1200 watt sound system, laptop and some lights for weekends of outdoor camping/partying. It has only been used for one 3 day weekend so far but it will definitely be back for more. I ran the unit for 3 days straight drawing about 1000 watts on average the entire time. During this time it used less then 4 gallons of gas and never had to be taken off economy mode. Several people came up to me and commented about how quiet it was. From reading many reviews before purchasing the gold standard in inverter generators of this size seems to be the Honda EU2000i. From what I have seen so far this unit delivers identical performance for less than half the price.

Highly recommend!

Great Generator, October 9, 2011 By Phil

I have an older 28 ft. class C - RV with a 4000 watt Onan generator built in. I'v been having trouble with the Onan and replaced many parts and still having difficulty getting it to run properly I purchased the Champion 7351 2,000 Watt generator at Costco for $480.00 with an instant rebate of $40.00. Tried it for two weekends camping on the ocean.
Works great...It Charged my house battery, worked my refrig, TV , heater motor and surround sound .Starts right up and very quiet. I will be purchasing another so I can run both together with the $69.00 kit to run the roof top air conditioner in the summer.

5 Star Product thusfar..., January 7, 2012 By Christin M. De Meo "RN" (Glen Rock, NJ USA)
(REAL NAME)

Perfect thusfar...test run only out-of-box after grounding (copper rod, wire and clamp) and fueling (oil/gas)with Sta-bil (essential in order to have ready to use during power failures to protect gas from degrading.
Running sound pretty good for this size generator outdoors about 25ft. away from house.
Haven't used for power outage yet, just break-in running time 30mins. for 3 days. Extremely easy start-up 1-2 pulls without stalling. (without load thusfar) Recommend starting and running for 20mins every 2 weeks when not in use, though manual states every 30days.
Very affordable price for this type of power.
IMPORTANT to set-up immediately upon receiving item...Smaller ETQ TG1200 leaked out of box just out of warranty still hoping to resolve...review and updates on ETQ product page.
Smaller Steel genny worked out-of-box nicely and during 2 power outages. Recommend Steel and Champion generators at this point.

Sweet Machine!, December 6, 2011 By Skip Thomsen "riverguy" (Forestville, CA United States)

First day with the generator, so I'll post some updates as I put it to the test of supplying our home with emergency power when we get our inevitable winter disruptions. Ok, so you know, I've been around all kinds of power equipment for more years than most of you have been alive, and am intimately familiar with most of it. After reading a gazillion reviews on generators, I bought this one because it gets raves from just about everybody. I did some research on the company, and they seem to be operating with uncommon integrity.

So I unpacked the generator, sat down and read the manual (I always do that), topped up the oil, added a gallon of fresh fuel, turned on the ignition, gas valve and the choke. Then I was going to pull the engine through once or twice gently before the real pull that would start it, but hey, it started half way through the first pull! After half a minute, I turned off the choke and the engine ran smoothly.

There are lots of opinions on the noise level. I started it in my shop, where I have run many other small engines, and this one qualifies as one of the quietest. WAY quieter than the Honda-powered pressure washer I had just been servicing. Actually, there is more (normal) engine/mechanical noise than exhaust noise, so once outside where it's supposed to be anyway, it will be a lot quieter without hard walls to echo the noise.

After about five minutes of running, I plugged in a few tools, among them a 1500W heat gun. The engine sound difference was barely discernible and the voltage stayed right on.

I talked to a tech guy on these generators and he said the one biggest issue people have with them is they leave old fuel in the tank when the machine is in storage for months on end. Adding a fuel stabilizer intended to keep our new alcohol-laced gasoline stable is key. I'm going to run it for 5 hours and then change the oil to Mobil 1 full synthetic. I use this oil in all my small engines (and in my vehicles and even in my Harley) and I have no engine problems.

BTW, I got this idea from another reviewer but it bears reposting: To open the box, I cut all around the bottom about a half-inch off the floor. Then I just lifted off the whole box that is now my storage cover. Neat.

I'll post an update after some good running hours, but so far, this little generator is A-1.

Great Deal, WAY louder than advertised!, July 24, 2011 By Tom Sherry "Playa Monkey" (San Jose, CA USA)
(REAL NAME)

I bought this genny for Burning Man 2011. We will be using it to charge Batteries and run Air Conditioning on super hot days! I just set up the genny, some easy assembly and we were ready to fire it up! Choked, it sounded like I was beating a Tin Can! 100 or so db (db = decibel, a measurement to sound)! Turned off the choke and it's likely at 80+ db which is a far cry from the 68 db advertised. I'm breaking it in for 10 hours or so before heading out there. It has been running solid for 4 hours and seems very solid so far. If it wasin't for the noise I would give it 5 stars so far. I made a YouTube of the set up and starting process
