Reliable back-up power, September 10, 2011 By U10 Coach

I bought this after Hurricane Isabel and have not regretted it. In fact, it got used again after Irene a couple of weeks ago and saved my sister-in law's freezer full of food, among other things. With a liitle basic care and maintenance, this generator continues to perform like new 7 years later, with reliable and clean (waveform) power that is easy on electronics. It starts on the first pull and runs strong all day. As another reviewer noted, it is quite fuel efficient. It is loud, however. Tips for keeping the engine reliable:
- Run it every month (or every 4 to 6 months, if you are like me and forget)for 20-30 minutes to make sure you can count on it and to evaporate any condensation out of the oil, etc.
- Check the oil before running it and when you refuel it during extended ops. It only holds 26 oz and not much needs to burn off before the low oil sensor/cutoff switch trips.
- Make sure you check the oil on a level surface. Low oil will cause it to stop running and/or not start. Can't stress this enough.
- Make sure to run the gas out of it when you are done by turning off the fuel valve and lettting it burn the last bit of gas out of the fuel line. This keeps the carburetor from getting gummed up.
- Use Stabil or another similar product to keep the gas fresh (for 6-12 months, tops, depending on the product and how much you use). Do not use old/bad gas!
By the way, for the reviewer that complained about the "$600" 10hp engine - it sucks that you got a bad generator, but that Tecumseh 10hp motor alone goes for over $400 new.

Great generator for the money, June 17, 2010 By Mike (Florida)

I bought this generator after the 2004 hurricanes ripped through our area in Florida. This generator starts right up on the first pull every time. As with any engine, if it is not used regularly, you need to treat the gas for storage. If yours doesn't have one, put a fuel cutoff switch in the fuel line. Every time you turn the generator off, just flip the switch and let it run all of the gas out of the engine. If you do this, you will never have a gummed up carburator and it will always be ready to go when you need it the most.

I put this generator thru hell, we ran it for 18 hours a day for 5 days when hurrican gustro came thru louisiana and it never failed us. we ran a 110 unit, tv,freezer, fridge, fan and when the heavy rains came i would plug in the 1.5 horse power pump on the pool to remove excess water. it was well worth the 649 i paid for it.

Power Back GT5250 3 years Excellent for the Money, September 1, 2008 By K. Guillory
(REAL NAME)

Purchased a GT5250 real cheap because someone did not put oil in the motor and blew the connecting rod clean out of the engine with half of the piston. Put a shot block in it and it has run great for 3 years. Use it for storms in southern Louisiana - many times!

Works every time and powers everything necessary like the frig, freezer, pc, satellite, cell phone chargers, freezer, router, switch, lights, TVs, DVDs, and a whole bunch more including the water pump. Not quite like a Honda but great for occasional use for a few weeks a year.

Extremely fuel efficient and only have to fill up twice a day for continuous use.

Great machine for the money., October 24, 2007 By Charles A. Hall
(REAL NAME)

I bought my machine from a guy who has to keep up with the Jones's. He bought a new Kubota brand, and I bought his Devilbiss. The machine works great! Only once, it wouldn't start, but I drained the old fuel, put in fresh gas, and it started right up. Pro's - It is a great machine for the money. Con's - It is a little on the noisy side, and a little too heavy to be called portable.

Good Generator, December 24, 2006 By A. Davis

Bought this generator over a year ago at Home Depot for under 400.00 at a clearance price.PROS:Has low oil shutoff/Rigid tires/2 110 volt plugs/1 220 plugs./low fuel consumption.Have ran this generator continuosly with 2 jobsite air compressors and 4 roofing coil nailers with no problems.Aiso had 3way hooked up charging 1 Milwaukee 3 bay battery charger and 1 V28 battery charger.CONS:Minor-Fuel shutoff is inline wing type/No oil level indicator glass/Could use 2 more 110 outlets.FINAL THOUGHTS:Have been well pleased with this generator as it has withstood all tests I have thrown at it.

Not bad.., January 23, 2006 By G. Szimanski (Michigan)
(REAL NAME)

I own one of these bought from Home Depot. Price was EXCELLENT. May not be a Honda, etc.. But for 400 it is an excellent back up generator. It is made in the US. Starts EVERY time, runs nearly the whole house including the furnace.(No AC) (Will run Window AC). I keep the gas treated, run int once a month or so (As you should ANY gas engine, unless winterized) It is a purchase worth the money.

So far I have no complaints., January 16, 2012 By KPass "KPass" (Sturbridge, Ma)

I have used this generation for two very long power outages over the past six months, one for 6 days, and another for 4 days. I had never felt I had a need for a generator because in the 8+ years were owned our house we seldom lost power, and when we did it was just for a couple of hours. However, this past June we were hit by a tornado and lost power for 3 days, so decided it would be nice to have a generator for our families peace of mind.

Quite frankly I choose the Duracell generator because of Amazon was offering free shipping, and it was a name I had at least heard of before. It turned out to be an excellent decision. I ran this generator continuously during two long blackouts 6 days and 4 days without a hitch. It started quickly (electric start) and was powerful enough to run our refrigerator, as well as our main TV, satellite box, DVD player, modem (we still had phone service- DSL), wireless router, and a computer with no problems at all.

I would recommend this generator to anyone looking for easy back-up power.

It's saved us a couple times already. Extended power outages waste food. This will nearly power our whole house, including two refrigerators and a freezer.

Love this unit, February 22, 2011 By Craneguy

I purchased the 7500 watt surge to 13,500 watt same unit much older. Got the unit week before hurricane Katrina glad I did! We were out of power for 36 days between this unit, and one a little lower in wattage we have survived power outages in comfort. I use mobil 1 10w30 full synthetic changed every 75 to 100 hours this paticular unit has over 600 hours on it since 2005 only problem I had was with dirty fuel would reccomend this unit to friends, and family [got this unit for parents].I run the whole house with exception of hot water heater, oven and dryer my house is total electric. This unit is worth it's weight in gold to me.

great quality, great price, September 23, 2009 By pat

I couldn't be happier with this item. It was easy to put together and to run for the first time. I had my house wired for emergency power and the electricians said this was a fantastic generator. They also told me that the price I paid was really good. Even when everything was online the generator didn't bog.It is a little loud but not excessively so.I would tell anyone it is a great deal and runs very well.I am a true believer in the quality of Briggs & Stratton. I have a lawn mower that is 35 years old and still going strong

One great machine, April 19, 2009 By Rose M. Hughes "cosmicrose" (Methow, WA USA)
(REAL NAME)

We have had our generator for close to a year now and it has never failed to do what it is needed to do. I have to say that we are happy campers indeed. It is extremely important that we have equipment that can handle heavy and persistent work loads at times. We have to rely on this generator completely in our wilderness off the grid location when there is inadequate solar gain to power our home and pump our water. We use ours every single day at times. This unit works so well that THREE of our neighbors have bought the exact some model for use at their own places after seeing ours in action. I have heard absolutely no complaints... only raves from all of them. I'm not sure why some others here have had issues... but none of us have.

Simple reliable generator, March 30, 2009 By TGW "gwtexas" (Carthage, TX)

After substantial experinece in helping people in the aftermath of hurricanes, I saw that hurricane Ike was about one week out from my house inland and decided I would not be one of those poor saps without a generator when the power went out. I went to every store around 50 miles of my house before I finally found a generator. It happened to be briggs and stratton elite series with 8000 running watts. It was the only one left and I knew it, so I bought it reluctantly from a tractor supply store in Texas. Well, after a week of having my power out from hurrican Ike I was thrilled with it. Heck, I was even able to watch dvd's on my TV, and that was while I had the comfort of knowing my refrigerator/freezer was running along with fans to keep the heat down. It is dirt simple to use, it is rugged, and the only minor complaint I would make is it about as loud as a riding lawn mower. That really isn't terrible though considering that it is a pretty powerful generator as "portable" units go. Thanks Briggs and Stratton, you never let me down.

Great Generator, Problems with Starting It, November 14, 2008 By RC Frederick

A great generator for the jobsite and home use. My order arrived on time and generator set up was fast and easy. But after putting the generator together, I could not get it started. After checking all the trouble shooting suggestions on the Briggs and Stratton website, I called customer service...they finally suggested I take it to one of their authorized dealers (15 miles away). The problem: the delivery company tilted the generator/container on it's side during delivery, oil from the engine dripped into the air filter stopping air flow. No air flow, no start. A simple fix once identified. Cost: a new air filter and time away from the job. Briggs and Stratton: Great website, customer service and product.

Darkness no more!, April 7, 2008 By Kevin Nicholls "jaded, aging hipster" (Milford, MI)
(REAL NAME)

Amazon had an incredible price on this when I bought it, and I couldn't be happier.

About a week after I placed my order, the delivery company wheeled it straight in to my garage (for free!) and setting it up took about 10 minutes by myself.

After doing some research, I learned that using synthetic 5W-30 oil was best in weather that's below 40F (which describes Michigan for about half of the year). I dropped a quart in, added some gas, and the generator fired right up.

I did notice what sounded like misfiring, as another reviewer noted. However, as soon as I added an electric load, it went away immediately. After talking to some other generator owners, I found out that this is normal, and leaving a generator running with no load is typically not recommended.

Overall, I couldn't be happier with this purchase. I dare the elements to stand up to me now!

Great price on a great generator, March 12, 2008 By Jeff Bollinger "runner1960" (missouri usa)
(REAL NAME)

I just recieved my new generator today. Amazon delivery was amazing. The truck line called. backed up to my door at my convienience, and me and the driver had it off the truck in less than 5 minutes. Keep in mind this is a 2 person job. Adding to the plus for the delivery is that it was absolutly free.

It took me a total of 10 minutes to install the wheels, support bracket, attach the battery cable(yes it does come with the battery installed),fill with the supplied oil and put in some gas. One little choke and the unit fired off a lot sooner than I anticipated. I ran some electrical power tools to make sure the unit was putting out power and they all worked flawlessly. I searched far and wide untill I settled on this unit. The Vangaurd engine ( built by mitsubishi according to The Briggs rep I talked to) was the major selling point. It is quieter than many larger generators and can ramp up to a 13500 watt surge. Im not hoping for a power outage , but I sure would like to put this baby to the test. I might just throw my transfer switch tomorrow and see what it can do. Very happy at this point

ETQ PG30P11 3,500 Watt 7 HP 208cc 4-Cycle OHV Propane Powered Portable Generator

ETQ PG30P11 3,500 Watt 7 HP 208cc 4-Cycle OHV Propane Powered Portable Generator Description

Utilizing clean-burning propane, the ETQ PG30P11 Portable Generator provides quiet, efficient, and cost-effective power to electrical appliances. You'll get the performance you need thanks to a seven-horsepower, 208-cc engine that produces up to 3,500 watts of energy--enough power to run your TV, refrigerator, water heater, or other household appliance. Great for power outages, light industrial applications, or recreational use, this generator connects to any standard-sized propane grill tank and has an oversized muffler for quiet operation.

Powerful Engine with Oversized Muffler for Quiet Operation
The PG30P11 features a powerful, seven horsepower, 208-cc, four-stroke, propane-powered OHV engine that is capable of producing 3,000 continuous watts and 3,500 maximum watts. Its pull recoil makes for easy, reliable starts every time. And with a quick-connect coupler, it hooks up easily to any gas grill's propane tank (not included).

, this generator uses only 1-1/2 pounds of gas per hour under a 50-percent load, meaning you can enjoy your appliances for hours on end without worrying about your carbon footprint.

The engine isn't just powerful, it's also quiet. Thanks to its oversized muffler, the generator produces sound at just 65 decibels during operation, making it an ideal choice for camping.

Alternator Technology Safely Delivers Electricity to Your Appliances
One of the most innovative features of the PG30P11 is its ETQ Clean Sine Alternator Technology that ensures low total harmonic distortion (THD). THD is a measure of the quality of the electricity produced by a generator, and THD above six percent can damage electronics and other components over time. With THD of less than five percent, the PG30P11 ensures high-quality, safe delivery of electricity from the generator to your electrical components.

With low THD, this generator is computer-friendly, meaning it's completely safe to use with laptops, printers, desktop computers, and more. The PG30P11 will give you peace of mind knowing that your computer hardware is completely safe from power surges and bad-quality electricity.

3,500 Watts of Power to Handle Most of Your Household Electronics
The PG30P11 produces up to 3,500 watts of power to run most of your electrically powered household items. You can use the 120-volt, 20-amp GFCI protected dual outlet to power lamps, TVs, computers, fans, or other low-wattage appliances all at the same time. Or take advantage of the 30-amp outlet to power higher wattage electrical components and appliances. Both outlets are circuit-breaker protected for complete safety from power surges that can damage your appliances and equipment.

Heavy-Duty Steel Construction That's Built for Portability
Everything from the heavy-duty cast iron engine to the durable rolled steel tubing surround is built to last. Weighing 106 pounds and measuring just 25.5 x 21 x 19.5 inches (LxWxH), this generator is easy to move and store.

Propane Power is , Affordable, and Convenient
Propane is a clean-burning fuel that is better for the environment than regular gasoline. It's also very inexpensive and convenient to use. One propane tank can power both your propane gas grill and your PG30P11 Portable Generator; simply switch the quick-connect coupler and you're ready to go.

The ETQ PG30P11 LP Portable Generator is backed by a one-year manufacturer's warranty.

Features
  •     ETQ 208cc 7HP OHV, air cooled
  •     Propane generator creates LPG eco-friendly energy
  •     ETQ's Sine Power delivers clean and steady current ideal for sensitive electronics

Works on house propane system, December 19, 2011 By R. Holzle "R Holzle" (Arkansas)
(REAL NAME)

Got this generator from Amazon when most other vendors listed it as out of stock. Amazon shipped the next day using a shipper called 'Home Direct'. They delivered a couple days late, BUT their website did not have functional delivery tracking so I had to send Amazon an e-mail when I had not heard anything on the expected delivery date. Amazon responded in about 3 hours and the shipper also sent me an e-mail in about 2 hours.

My house has a 250 gallon propane tank to run the heater during the winter. I was able to hook up the ETQ generator to the house propane system. I teed off the 11" water column pressure house propane piping with 1/2" black pipe to an outside location. I then disconnected the ETQ inlet propane hose (the one that connects to the propane tank) at the inlet to the pressure regulator on the top of the generator. I then ran a hose (provided by the local propane dealer) from my 1/2" pipe to the inlet side of the ETQ regulator. After air got cleared from the piping/hose, the generator started up and ran just as it had on a portable propane tank.

Solid Generator and Great Support, December 19, 2011 By jabber93

Received this generator in good shape, and it starts easily on 2 pulls of the cord. Runs quieter than gasoline units I have used. Have not used in emergency situation yet. Excellent experience with support to answer a couple of setup questions and for product registration. Very pleased so far. Be sure to get an oil filler with long funnel as it would be impossible to get oil in the unit without one.

Very pleased with this item., December 18, 2011 By R. Hembree "Vet Tech" (OK, USA)
(REAL NAME)

This generator was delivered to us yesterday and we tried it out today. We were quite pleased with it. It ran the 1100-watt microwave and heater blower motor with no problem. It started after two tries. My husband is an electrician and he said he was proud of the generator and that it "really kicks butt." Pardon the language, but those were his words and it must be a good product to get that kind of a positive response from him. It was delivered by CEVA. They were very polite and prompt. Overall, we are very happy with this transaction.

Brilliant, quiet, little generator, December 14, 2011 By Lee Roberts

Main reasons for buying this generator:
1. Propane fuel allows me to avoid stale gas and associated issues.
2. I was advised that propane generators were quieter.
3. Couldn't budget for larger Wattage.

I've owned the unit for over a month now and have run it for a total of 5 hours (to reach the suggested first oil change).

Delivery:
Company promptly phoned to arrange delivery and delivered during the requested window. Generator arrived undamaged. Other reviews have pointed out the lack of information about the red brackets, etc. ETQ appeared to have listened as this one arrived with warning tags and the manual seemed straightforward enough.
The included toolkit and RV adapter were a nice touch.

Pros:
I read the other reviews and followed the advice about being careful with the choke and having nothing plugged in during start. It easily started on the second pull.
It really is quiet, I've had conversations standing over it without issue. Compared to my neighbors gas generators (which are admittedly in the 5000-7000 watt range), it's pleasant to be around.
At around 100lbs, I can pick this up and carefully move it around. Wheel kit would obviously be preferred but I can't justify the cost so the weight is a pro for me.

Cons:
Only a small issue, the oil fill/drain location isn't great and required me to tilt the unit while filling and draining. Make sure you have a small diameter funnel with a long spout.

Overall I'm very happy with this purchase.

So far so good; wheel kit is a good idea, November 8, 2011 By Nathaniel Firethorn (Exit 8A, New Jersey)

Generator just arrived today. Using both the choke (which worked fine) and the denser, I was able to get it started in 1-2 pulls when adjusted properly. The wheel kit (available from northerntool.com as their Item# 213298, ETQ part number W001-T40-00) is a necessity if you want to move the generator easily over any flat surface; alternatively, strap it on to a hand truck. The next step is to wire in a transfer switch and try it on some critical circuits in my home.

The product was shipped quickly. I have already used it a few times and the generated works fine. The noise level is low compared to other generators. I'm pleased using this product for light construction projects and feel it should help in case of any emergency for my small home

Great Little Generator, September 22, 2011 By Amazonaholic

Well, Just received this today. This was the only disappointment with this purchase. It was ordered on Sept. 1st; due by the 9th; and received today. A long wait.

Other than that, it was in good working order. The lengthy shipping seemed to do no harm. The first small snag we ran into was due to us not having the new tanks. So might want to keep that in mind if you have the older propane tanks. Unless we find an adapter we won't be able to use them. The second snag was they seem to ship with a washer on the machine end of the hose. Once you take it off, remove the washer thingy and reattach the hose it won't spew propane. Then, she fired up and ran like a champ. We started it up about 5 feet from our door, in a carport area. Once we went inside the house the noise was minimal. We used the recommended power cord; plugged it in, and plugged our power drill in, and it worked just fine.

We will put it through some paces in the next month or two and I will update if we find anything of interest to add. Until then, it's a wonderful little machine and should serve us well in the future.

i expected less noise, February 15, 2011 By customer in VA (VA)

I love the idea of propane tools. I think there should be more propane powered devices (lawnmowers, generators etc).

I need a generator only 1-2 times a year during overnight power outages. My biggest consideration points were noise and propane. I bought this from a local store so that I could return this in case it was too noisy.

PROS
-Started on the first pull everytime i tried (as long as i had the choke lever in correct position - be gentle with the lever because many complained it can break).
-I love the idea of propane powered generator
-Instructions are ok, but not much to do really

CONS
- it is noisy. I have a house about 20 meters from my place (60 feet) and I did not feel comfortable with the noise level - i thought it would bother my neighbors. I thought propane would be quieter (and i guess it is compared to gas powered generators) but on absolute level, this generator is still loud.
- some parts like the choke lever seem flimsy so be gentle.

I am returning it. I do not want a gasoline generator (yamahas are quiet) because I would not use it often and gasoline storage and clean up can be a problem. So my plan is to buy an inverter (pure sine wave) and connect it to my car. I know it is an expensive way to get power but it is quieter and more "sure" way to get temporary power.

Propane gets 5 stars minus 1 star for noise.

As Promised, January 29, 2011 By Renegade

The generator was delivered ahead of schedule in good shape. After connecting to the propane tank it started easily on the second pull. I purchased this item as a backup electrical supply and have not had the need to use it for any length of time. It is fairly quiet as generators go.

works great, December 27, 2010 By Patricia J Borden

We bought this to run freezer and refrigerator. It started right up. Ran extension cords to both. Worked great. No mess of gas to deal with. Light weight and not too noisy.

Works very well, December 10, 2011 By jbyrne

I bought this generator after hurricane irene and the recent snow storm we had in CT. I had a inexpensive generator and I really wore it out. It I put 250 hours on it between the storms to bring the grand total up to 760 hours. I felt after 7 years, it was time for a new generator.

I picked this inverter generator because my old generator had varying voltage. The lights in my house used to dim up and down. I wanted something that gave good quality power. I felt I had pushed my luck long enough and had not burned out any appliances or my well pump.

I used this genset the other day for 12 hours when the power got knocked out. It worked excellent and it is very, very, quiet. I could not hear it in my bedroom (unlike my old contractor genset). The eco setting work very well. The genset only burned 3 gallons of gas in 12 hours.

I like the fact that this generator can easily run for over 12 hours on one tank. I can fill the genset when I leave the house for work and it's still running when I get home. I don't have to worry about anyone in my family filling it with gas.

This genset is really well built It is quiet and efficient. You get what you pay for. I highly reccommend it.

Champion Portable Generator - 41537, December 27, 2011 By Born Rich

I bought this generator after a passing hurricane and two tropical storms visited the Northeast (New Jersey) in 2011. Our basement flooded when the power went out rendering our sump pumps inoperable. An estimate for battery backup sump pumps was in the $800 range EACH. That made a generator very attractive, and I too began reading the reviews of generators and features that would be helpful if and when I purchased one (electric start, can be used in all 50 states (CARB compliant), solid wheels, high capacity, and long(er) warranty than most). The previous reviewers are absolutely correct about this generator being an incredible value for the capability you will buy vs the dollar spent. I had an electrician wire a 30a receptacle outside of the house to the circuit breaker box inside the garage with a breaker bar lock out for safety. I also bought a 1.5a battery maintainer ("floater") to keep the battery charged and ready for use (you can pull-start the unit if you desire to do so). I have tested this unit with my household load (two refrigerators, two sump pumps, lights, central heating fan, microwave, fans, etc.) and was very satisfied with the unit easily handling the electrical load. This generator started easily out of the box, came with accessories that other units don't, and has a large enough capacity to handle everything I would want to power in an emergency...with a substantial surge reserve if necessary. A great value and quite powerful. The next level of wattage capacity is far more expensive. Highly recommended, and these reviews indicate substantial ease of use and powerful performance with the Model 41537 Champion generator. Along with the 1.5a battery maintainer, I would also seriously recommend using a fuel stabilizer (StaBil)in your gas can and in the fuel tank of the generator). A value-added feature is lifetime technical support and delivery of the unit was quick (less than three days!) and careful. The delivery team placed it in my garage strapped to a wooden pallet

Nice unit with packed features., November 9, 2011 By BIRDPEN (MA USA)

I totally agree with other detailed review on every point. I have bought this unit from Costco, much cheaper than sold elsewhere, including via Amazon. Unit was easy to unpack, attached wheels and ready for run in 15-20 minutes. I like the solid wheels, no worry about air pressure or flat tire. This generator is little loud, as you would expect for this category, but no louder than a high end snow blower, and not much noticeable when you are inside the house. It came with battery and electric start, works flawlessly. Also included 25', L15-30R connector cable (worth $70-$100), engine oil and tools.
My first impression is very good, tested with voltmeter, it is generating 122Volts, on board display showing 61Hz. Tried bunch of electric loads for testing and worked great. Not tested with full load yet, but I guess for that I need to wait for next power outage :)

Champion Power Equipment Generator - Model 41537, November 9, 2011 By R. Stoer (Northern NJ United States)
(REAL NAME)

At the time of this writing there are no user reviews listed anywhere for this model. Therefore, I'm posting my initial impressions in the hope it will be of some use to those seeking information regarding this generator. Later I'll update the review as to how it performs in the long-term.

The first several paragraphs discuss some things I've learned while shopping for generators in this price/power range. The paragraph headings describe the topic. If you're not interested, you can skip right to "My review of the 41537".

Made in China vs. Made in USA:
I did a lot of research on generators and transfer switches after hurricane Irene left us without power for five days. The first thing I discovered was that it's difficult (if not impossible) to find a generator this powerful, made in the USA, for less than $1,200.00. Briggs & Stratton and Generac make some models in the U.S., but their homeowner lines are made in China. I also learned that when a model boasts of an engine by one of several well-known Japanese manufacturers, that engine is often made by the Japanese company in China. Whatever your personal preferences, good and bad products come from all countries, and the reviews of the Chinese made units seemed no worse than their more expensive USA equivalents.
Bottom line: American made generators exist. But if you want one, be prepared to spend at least 50% more. Since I will only be using mine occasionally, I couldn't justify the premium.

Differences (and similarities) between Chinese made generators:
There are dozens of brands of portable generators being sold in the U.S. A large part of the Chinese built units have brand names you've never heard of and they look nearly identical. The companies behind these brands are apparently importers, with no manufacturing capability of their own. They all seem to buy from the same factory and just slap their name on it. However, there are a few companies with their own manufacturing facilities in China. That sets them apart, as it gives them more control over the design and quality of the finished product. Although that product could be worse than the 'standard model' the assumption is they went their own way to be better than the pack, not worse. The differences in reviews of these generic models seems to come down to the level of customer service and warranty support offered by the company.

What drew me to the Champion Brand:
1)Generally good reviews. As I mentioned, I couldn't find any reviews for this particular model, but the smaller units from Champion get mostly favorable comments.
2)Value. They were hard to beat on price vs. (performance, features, warranty, & reviews).
3)Decent warranty: One year labor/Two years parts. Not the best available, but better than many.
4)They were one of a handful of brands claiming to have their own manufacturing facilities.
5)They've been around since 2003 - not a lifetime but longer than many competitors.
6)They claim to pride themselves on their customer service. Since lack of support is probably the largest complaint against other brands, I looked into that claim.
Here's what I found:

Like Sears, there's an exploded view and a complete parts list in the owner's manual. They also claim to keep a good supply of parts on-hand (I did not confirm this).

Before I made my purchase I emailed the company's sales department twice. Both times they got back to me in 3 or 4 days with satisfactory answers to my questions. Not really speedy but they did respond, and my questions were not service related. The technical department may be better (or worse). Hopefully, I'll never have to find out.

In the support section of their website, they have several technical bulletins offering help with various issues people may experience with their products. These range from broken starter cords and choke levers to engine adjustments and dealing with stale gas. Some may see this approach as an attempt to shift the burden of fixing their broken equipment to the customer, but I like it. These generators weigh over 200 pounds so it's not easy to schlep them to a service center, even when under warranty. Plus there's the time involved and loss of service while it's in the shop. If one of these tips can get you up-and-running again quickly (especially in an emergency) why not? - better too much information than to little.

My review of the 41537:
The model 41537 has an output rated at 7500W continuous with peaks up to 9375W. It's powered by a 15HP, 439cc OHV engine with electric or recoil start and splash lubrication. It has a 5.9 gallon metal gas tank (coated inside to prevent rust) with a built-in fuel gauge. The fuel cap is chained to the tank to prevent loss and there's a removable strainer in the fuel inlet. It has a drop-down `U' shaped handle at one end and rolls on a pair of 10" non-pneumatic tires. There's a low-oil shutoff and an over-voltage shut-off (Volt Guard). It has two duplex 120VAC outlets and one 240VAC 30A L14-30R receptacle. All outlets are protected by circuit breakers.

The unit arrived undamaged. It took about fifteen minutes to un-box it, assemble it, and add the supplied oil & gas. It took almost the entire container of oil, but not quite. There may be some oil in the reservoir upon shipping so don't just dump the whole bottle in without checking.

The assembled unit looked sturdy and it started up immediately (after I remembered to turn on the gas). The on-board voltmeter read 127 VAC (254/2) with no load and the frequency showed 63 Hz. My own voltmeter measured 122 VAC at the same time so the on-board meter may be about 5 volts high (I'll check it with a third meter soon and add my findings).

I gave it a quick load test by running a Skill Saw (900W running) and a rather large, single piston air compressor (1800W at 120VAC running). The air compressor caused the engine RPM's to drop noticeably upon startup but it recovered quickly and ran fine.

My first real use of the generator was to power an electric "JawSaw" tree pruner after a freak October snowstorm broke branches in several trees on my property. The generator was so heavy I realized I wouldn't be able to wheel it all over the property so I loaded it into a dump cart hitched to the back of my lawn tractor an drove it from tree to tree - I didn't even take it off the cart. It started right away every time and had no trouble with the small five-amp load. I admit that's not much of a test, but so-far so-good.

Pro's:
Comes complete with battery (Surprisingly, not all electric start generators include it), oil, funnel, spark plug wrench, glossy paper manual (though lacking some detail). It also comes with a 25', 10 gauge, 4 wire cord with an L14-30 plug and five 110 VAC receptacles. To buy this cable separately would cost $75-$100. I cut off the 110 VAC outlets and installed an L14-30 in-line receptacle ($16.99 from Amazon) to create a cord to run between the generator and the inlet box for my transfer switch. No other generator I've seen comes with a 25' cord like this.

Easy to Assemble. Bolt on the wheels, feet, and connect the battery. Add oil and gas. Done. Speaking of wheels, here's a small thing that I liked about this unit. Most other brands hold the wheels on the axle with cotter pins. I'm sure that works fine, but the nut, bolt, and sleeve used by this model just seems more substantial.

IntelliGauge: This digital display can be switched to show voltage, frequency (Hz) and hours-of-operation. Very useful, but initial tests show that at least the voltage part may not be terribly accurate.

Gas Gauge: Not an extraordinary thing. Most have it, but not all.

Volt-Guard over-voltage protection. This is a very useful feature that will shut down the engine in the event the Automatic Voltage Regular (AVR) fails, thereby protecting your equipment from receiving too high a voltage. It's not mentioned in the manual or the on-line specs but it says on the box that it has it. There's a video explaining it on Champion's website and U-Tube.

It has a brush type generator with copper windings. This type generator is more costly and heavier, but more efficient.

Con's:
Nothing much so far, but if I want to pick nits:

It's loud (as I knew it would be). It's has a 15HP engine running at 3,600RPM - It's going to be loud. Inverter type generators are generally much quieter but they're limited in output and cost more. Standby generators are quieter because they're in a box. They make enclosures for portable units but they're expensive and I don't know how well they work. Honda offers some relatively quiet (non-inverter) units, but none are as powerful as this and they're very pricey.

It's heavy and awkward to move. All generators this powerful are heavy but Ridgid has designed theirs similar to a hand truck, with a taller (folding) handle and the weight balanced over the wheels. If you'll be moving yours any distance you may want to consider one of those.

The manual could be more thorough (although much of what's missing is available on-line).

So far, I'm very happy with my purchase. My complaints are insignificant. If it continues to perform well I'll be a happy customer.

Update 12/9/11:
A note on pricing: When I said this generator was a good buy, I meant at the price Amazon was selling them for at the time, which ranged from $812 to $849 delivered. At that price or below I contend this model is hard to beat. There are also other Champion models that are similar to the 41537 but offer remote start/stop for about $75-100 more. Those models are: 41552 & 41535 (Cat 5 line). Anything said about the 41537 should also pertain to them.

Generac 5847 XG8000E 8,000 Watt 410cc OHV Gas Powered Portable Generator With Wheel Kit & Electric Start

Generac 5847 XG8000E 8,000 Watt 410cc OHV Gas Powered Portable Generator With Wheel Kit & Electric Start Description

Engineered for high performance, the professional-grade Generac XG8000E portable gas-powered generator (model 5847) is ideal for both residential and light commercial applications, providing a reliable 8,000-watt power supply wherever you need it and a maximum power output of 10,000 watts. The XG Series employs the Generac OHVI engine, which has a significantly longer life than competitive engines--up to an unprecedented three to four times longer. And this XG8000E model comes with an easy electric start integrated into the control panel.

Its compact design, smaller footprint, semi-solid, rally-style wheels and fold-down locking handles make this XG Series generator easier to transport. Additionally, its durable construction with oversized full-wrap frame tubing and impact resistant corners minimizes damage from rough handling. And all XG Series generators come with covered outlets for added protection from the environment and rugged working conditions, plus an hour meter to help track maintenance requirements.

Powerful, Long-Lasting OHVI Engine

The Generac OHVI (Overhead Valve Industrial) engine is the only engine designed specifically for generator use. Generators are often required to run for hours at a time, or even day after day. Engines adapted from other applications can overheat and may have shorter lifespans. It offers advanced heat reduction technology such as plateau-honed cylinders that lessen break-in time, plasma moly ring seals that help to keep excess oil out of the cylinder, and graphite piston inserts that provide a smoother surface for the piston to move against--all helping to contribute to a significantly longer engine life.

Maintenance costs are reduced with a spin-on automotive-style oil filter that's larger than a standard filter, catching more particles so oil stays cleaner for a longer amount of time. Service intervals are up to twice as long as competitive engines, approximately 2 years or 200 hours of operation.

Plenty of Wattage to Run a Full Range of Appliances

The Generac XG8000E supplies 8,000 output watts and 10,000 maximum watts (for start-up of devices). It has an A/C voltage of 120/240 and a frequency of 60 hertz.

For unexpected blackouts, this is enough wattage to run home appliances such as security systems, computers, and electric stoves, as well as window A/C units and sump pumps. For construction and landscaping applications, it's enough to support large devices such as lawn mowers, belt sanders, and table saws. And for camping and outdoor events, it can run portable stereos, outdoor lights, and electric grills.

(Note: All appliances should be checked for actual wattage ratings.)

This generator's sturdy, 9-gallon steel tank ensures a full 100 hours of operation at a 50-percent load, letting you relax for hours of use. You can monitor fuel levels at a glance with the tank's built-in fuel gauge, while the unique lighted Power Bar displays available wattage. Its 120-volt outlets are circuit-breaker protected, guarding against power overloads and allowing the generator to smoothly send power to your appliances.

This generator is CSA (Canadian Standards Association) certified. It's backed by a two-year limited residential warranty (one-year warranty for commercial applications).

It is everything that was promised, February 21, 2011 By Superturbo

Assembly was fast and easy; by the book. It came with 2 quarts of oil, an extra oil filter, an extra air filter, an extra spark plug, a spark plug wrench, a battery charger and fuel stabilizer. The electric start works great. The pull start will start the engine after 3 pulls. The frame is well built. It is very easy to move around. I haven't burned a full tank of fuel yet, but so far everything meets my expectations. I bought this generator to power 3 refrigerator/freezer units and my gas furnance fan. The generator noise isn't offensive but it isn't quiet either. Delivery was 1 day earlier than the estimated delivery date. If the hours per gallon were a little more and the generator was a little quieter, I would give it 5 stars.

Great portable machine, November 8, 2011 By CJMeier

This is an outstanding product that was just put to the test last week. I was able to power my essentials (2 Fridges, lights, furnace, well pump, sump pump, tv, dvd, 2 cooking plates, crock pot, and my neighbors furnance, and never exceeded 50% load. We usually ran at 20% making my effeciency much higher. I actually got 20 hour run times on one tank of gas (9 gallons). The only time I stopped running this machine was to fill it with gas, and change the oil. This is a great, reliable, effecient, reliable, powerful, reliable unit. Did I mention it was reliable?

Very user-friendly, February 11, 2012 By Scott Dayman (Pasadena, CA United States)

I got this primarily for my travel trailer, though it's not powerful enough to run A/C or multiple appliances. The economy mode is great since it quietly idles under light load and cranks up as needed. Filling the oil is messy - I put too much in, so a lot of it spilled and the overflow is still seeping out. Next time I'll use a turkey baster to fill the oil. I also wish that there was another way to reset the generator after an overload other than shutting it down and restarting it.

Quality Equipment, January 7, 2012 By Ray Hill

Received my new EF2000iS within 4 days of ordering which was excellant. Unboxed, and followed the instructions by putting the oil in first, and then fuel. Unit fired up on the First Crank. This Generator Far Exceeds all others which are currently for sale, not only with muffled Sound, but also generator output. This light weight unit currently out performs by Kipor 3000 watt unit which I had been using with my RV, not only by weight, but 50% less sound. I would strongly recommend this Yamaha Unit above all others.

Yamaha EF2000is, January 6, 2012 By STUART

This is the GREATEST generator ever made. I use it to power my tire warmers for my track bike and it's excellent. It's so quiet, can hear other people's generators further away before I hear this one. Matter of fact the only way I know it's still running is because the warmer light is still on.
I'm in the military and was getting ready to deploy so I had to store the generator. The instructions said to let it run dry of gas and drain the oil. So with the generator's gas guage on empty, I started it up to just let it die. This thing ran for another 2 hours until I finally gave up and turned it off. The next day with it still on empty I started it again and put a 900 Watt load on it and it STILL ran for another 3 hours until it finally started to sputter and die. This generator is AMAZING. I love it.

Has done everything I've needed it to do, December 28, 2011 By Brian

This inverter generator was purchased to run a few amps, lights, and a TV at a football tailage. Long before the first tailage there was a power outage at the house and I used the inverter generator to power a fridge in my kitchen for 4 days. Don't kid your self into thinking this is a 100% duty cycle generator, I would run it for several hours shut it down and then start it back up when the freezer got near 28*. In 4 days the generator ran for just over 40 hours and used about 4 gallons of gas.

Quick oil change and it was tailage time. And this generator shined when it came time to tailage. Running about 750w worth of amplifiers, some small lights and a 38" LCD was nothing for this little guy. When the music was turned up and the amps started hitting hard the eco mode would speed up the motor a bit. A 5 hour tailgate would use less than a 1/2 tank of fuel.

I couldn't be happier with this purchase. We've even had to use the 12v outlet to charge the tailgating trucks battery when someone forgot to turn off the headlights before kickoff.

This is a great compact generator. I really believe these products are second only to Honda. Mine however must have been defective because it started leaking gasoline a few days after I got it.

What the doctor ordered, November 28, 2011 By Mikey (Sacramento)

Was looking for a light/portable/quiet generator and found it in this one. Not sure if a inverter generator is needed but guessing its good insurance against damaging a computer or tv. Is quiet, as I can expect, for a engine running. A bit of a pain filling with oil. Like the gas petcock, so I can run the carb dry. Not sure if it will damage anything but would rather store it without gas in carb (nothing mentioned in instructions), but been doing that with motorcycles for decades.

Haven't had it long but like it so far.

Work horse generator at a better price than Honda, November 14, 2011 By Ethosian (Earthquake Zone, California)

This generator has seen lots of use since I bought it, charging the batteries on our RV, and powering up the AC lighting and refrigerator circuits simultaneously. We've used it to run portable equipment (electric chain saw and hedge trimmers) when city power wasn't available. I love the thing. It's nice and quiet. Not powerful enough for the microwave on full power or the air conditioner, but it runs everything else just fine. If I go camping in the desert in summer I'll by another one so you can chain them together to power the air conditioner. No complaints.

Remote Power, November 2, 2011 By IvoryDawg

I ordered my Yamaha EF2000iS generator on Sunday evening. It shipped on Monday and arrived at my door on Wednesday!! I put oil and gas in it and it fired up on the very first pull. I have only had it a couple of hours so I haven't had a lot of time to test it out, but this thing seems to be just great. It is not very loud at all, especially when it is under a light load. I would highly recommend this generator and I am sure I will get years of service out of it.

This thing rocks! I hope the power goes out!, January 10, 2012 By Andrew Kitzberger (New Ulm, MN United States)

I have been searching and hunting all over for the most bang for your buckI didn't get this from amazon, but brand new from a small engine shop as someone traded it in, never used, not even oil in it on a snowblower.... I filled it with gas and oil at the shop and wham!--popped right off and began to purr. Over the next couple of weeks I have used it to power a circ saw, miter saw and a couple compressors at the same time and it doesn't even flinch. It's even pretty quite as far as larger generators go. I had some questions about the generator, needed a manual and such and emailed the company and in about 2 hours I was talking with a sales rep and had my questions answered. I can't saw enough good things about this generator and westinghouse thus far.
