What they said...., December 18, 2007 By Michael Burcke "burke" (Oklahoma City, OK)
(REAL NAME)

The reviews above pretty much say it all...these are really excellent generators, especially considering the reasonable prices. Don't worry about the Robin engines...they are exceptional. I say this as a former generator technician. The only thing equal to these is Honda, but you'll pay for the priviledge.

Makita Quality Standards
, July 7, 2007 By R. W. Mayer
(REAL NAME)

As anyone who has thoroughly done their generator shopping discovers, this Makita generator is not made by Makita, and is sold under at least three different brand names. Regardless, it does have the Makita label on it, and that meant something to me having owned many high end Makita tools for years, and having found virtually all of them as better choices than my past preferences of Milwaukee, Porter Cable, etc.

I have not used this generator extensively, so my findings are preliminary. So far, fit, finish, layout, components, etc. all appear high quality. The thing starts effortlessly and immediately and is super quiet. I had narrowed my choice down to this Makita and a comparable "middle of the road" Honda unit. The Honda unit was my first choice, but price dictated the Makita purchase. If this generator was in everyday use I would have likely gone Honda (never had a bad Honda product, and I own lots of 'em).

Although previous reviewers have discounted the Robin engine, I feel Robin's Subaru affliation, and past affiliation with Wisconsin engines ought to be worth something. For the price, the only other comparable units had Briggs and/or Tecumseh engines, both of which I stopped using decades ago after repeated sour experiences.

Only less than positive comment: The manual is cryptic. A bit better overview of uses of the various outlets would be good. Not necessary if you have good common sense, but you'd think legal counsel at Makita would mandate otherwise!

UPDATE 02/05/2011 The Makita G6100R has stood well over the test of time. This generator continues to start first pull...well not all of the time, but certainly 75% of the time...never a difficult start over the years. It also has more available surge power than ever anticipated. Whereas no generator I have used in the past was capable of starting my 120V 5HP split phase motor on a wood planer, the Makita will...not without complaining a bit, but indeed the Makita feature of being able to provide up to 150% of rated capacity for up to 20 seconds is enough to get the 5HP spinning....keeping that 5 HP running is literally no sweat.

I just finished running the Makita G6100R almost non-stop over the past four plus days as we have lost our power due to an ice storm. The Makita is wired into a transfer switch, and powers my 2HP 220V water pump, freezer, fridge, and sundry lights and outlets. It purrs along wonderfully, never even approaching capacity! My only "complaint" is a minor one...that is, when the generator is running under minimal load (but idle control has not yet kicked in...in other words, still under some small load), it does not always running smoothly at full RPM. It will run perfectly smooth about 95+% of the time, but does occasionally miss a beat...just a minor blip. There is no real high speed adjustment on the carb (gotta love EPA regs which mandated this carb change!), so the engine pretty much has to run the way it was set at the factory. My complaint is a minor one, and may simply be a spark plug that is on its way out. I'll check shortly. All in all, I would buy this generator again, especially appreciating the price it is today, which has risen over 230% since my purchase! Better than my portfolio did over the same period...

An outstanding value, August 28, 2005 By David Gancarz (Central Florida, USA)
(REAL NAME)

After weathering three hurricanes last year here in central Florida, we decided to take the plunge and invest in a generator. We were looking for one with enough power to run our refrigerator, ceiling fans, lights, television, microwave, computer, and miscellaneous small appliances (coffeemaker, fans, etc). We also wanted the machine to be portable so it could be stored in our garage when not in use and moved outside by one person when it needed to be run. It should be gasoline powered, relatively fuel efficient, and affordable. Finally, we wanted to be able to hook the generator into our house circuitry so as not to have to deal with extension cords. Connecting to the house circuitry meant installing a transfer switch for safety and to meet National Electric Code requirements. A transfer switch allows you to power essential, pre-selected branch circuits (refrigerator, living room, dining room, for instance) from either utility power OR generator power, but never both simultaneously. The transfer switch does the very important job of electrically isolating generator-powered branch circuits from utility service. Without it, you would be energizing service lines outside your house, creating an extremely dangerous condition; for instance, you could electrocute utility crews working to restore power. The transfer switch configuration also requires the generator to supply 120/240VAC power, which is what is used to power the transfer switch/subpanel.

For the list of items we wanted to power, 5000W is the correct size. A larger generator would be needed if we wanted to run our central air conditioning system, the hot water heater, and/or the electric range.

We visited the usual home-improvement-superstore suspects to look at 5000 Watt generators. TroyBilt and Generac are well under $1000 and certainly affordable, but they are made by Briggs & Straton and are of poor quality, in my opinion. I bought a brand new TroyBilt/B&S power-washer some years back and after about 6 months the seams in the plastic gas tank came apart, causing it to leak gasoline when filled more than part way. I bought a new Toro lawn mower with a B&S engine which suffered the exact same fate - the seams in the plastic gas tank failed. Perhaps I am just unlucky with B&S products. But for me, I am not interested in owning another one.

Honda generators were very nice and have a well-deserved reputation for reliability. However, they were just not affordable - at least to us. If I were a site contractor and was going to use it every day, then maybe I could justify the $3000+ cost, but certainly not for a machine that was going to spend most of its days sitting in the garage.

We settled on a Makita G6100R generator and I have been very happy with it. The 6100R is identical to the Robin Subaru RGV6100 -- evidently rebranded under the Makita name. It is powered by an 11HP OHV, 4-cycle, air-cooled Robin Subaru engine which, according to the literature, has an aluminum alloy block with cast iron cylinder liner, electronic ignition with automatic timing adjustment, dual ball bearing supported crankshaft, automatic decompression system, and splash type lubrication. The generator is brushless, self-exciting, 2-pole, single phase and generates 20 Amps on each of the two 120V output circuits for a total of 40Amps (20Amps at 240VAC). The 5-gallon metal gas tank will, reportedly, allow it to run under full load for about 7 hours. This generator is also available with an electric start (model G6101R). The one I bought (G6100R) has a recoil-type starter (pull cord). I had no problems starting it, whatsoever. It starts very easily. I also purchased the Makita 110004-A 2-wheel mobility kit, which I highly recommend. Without it, you are looking at close to 200 lbs of dead weight to move around.

I purchased a Gen/Tran PowerStay 200660 manual transfer switch, which allows me to switch up to 16 branch circuits between utility power and generator power. When in operation, the generator sits OUTDOORS and away from HVAC intakes (avoiding the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning) and plugs into a Reliance PR20 power inlet box using a 10-foot L14-20 power cord (20A @ 120/240VAC). A 50-foot length of 10AWG 4-wire Romex runs from the power inlet box, through the attic, and connects to the transfer switch next to the main power center (breaker box). Basically, you start the generator, then switch the transfer switch to open the Utility breaker and close the generater breaker, thus supplying generated power to all the branch circuits wired into the transfer switch subpanel. A nice side feature of this setup is that when the utility power comes back on, power will be restored to those branch circuits not routed through the transfer switch (such as air conditioning). Therefore, you will know right away when the utility power comes back on.

Makita Quality at a Great Price, March 7, 2003 By NCisBeautiful (Durham, NC USA)

I decided to upgrade my generator from the 2500 watt Coleman I was using. It would barely run a refrigerator. We had a terrible ice storm here in Durham NC a few months ago. I was without power for three days and we were luck it was only that long. I did alot of research into generators. Here's what I found. Honda gens are wonderful but expensive. Grenerac is garbage for long term use. Read the reviews if you doubt. Makita built by Robin compare feature to feature and quality wise with Honda. I like the way Robin builds their engines, all ball bearing construction. No sleave bearings here. I have use this gen twice so far and it will power my whole house no problem. The control panel on this gen is well layed out. I used a outlet box with a twist lock plug to feed power into my main pannel. By the way Amazon has the best price on these gens.

Best Generator for the price!, February 26, 2003 By A Customer

Just recievd the Makita G6100R 6100 Watt Generator and was very impressed on how it worked. Filled with oil and gas, gave one pull on the starter cord and started to run. Ran my entire house on the generator (with a 20 AMP twist lock plug wired into my circuit panel)for 5 hours with no problems. Has great features normally found on higher priced models. Idle switch is great along with smooth and QUIET running Robin (Subaru made) engine. Can't beat the price either! Get the wheel kit, this generator is heavy!

Makita Generator 12/2/00, December 2, 2000 By John Bishop (N.Y.)

As a custom homebuilder, I have owned many different brands of generators including Honda, generac, coleman, yamaha, and John Deere. This Makita has been as good or better than any and is easily the best for the dollar. Especially well liked by my men is the auto idle feature along with the fact that even at open throttle this unit is very quiet, very important whe running 8 hours a day. The only problem I've had so far in 6 months use is a broken starter rope.

Inexpensive Option for Diesel Generator, December 19, 2011 By Dr. Phillip L. Knapp (Colorado)
(REAL NAME)

I keep this gen around for backup in case of power outage .. we typically get 1 - 2 outages a year due to heavy snowfall ... of coarse since I've had this we've had none! I'm gonna get a snowblower to make sure it snows no more next year??!!

But seriously, I've run this for some power tools (only a small 4" grinder) at the end of the drive way, and it works great. When I first got it the Oil Filter was a bit bunged up from the factory .. looked like it was installed a bit crooked .. I emailed ETQ and they sent me out 2 new ones no charge very quickly. Make sure when you store it you pull the pull start cord until you feel sig resistance .. this will make sure both valves are closed and will keep moisture from accumulating in the Cyl.

Overall Very happy with it. I would have given it full stars ... but I just don't have enough "real time" hours on it to say for sure.

Tractor on.

very good generator, June 27, 2011 By Steve Jones (Belton, TX, US)

nothing but good things to say about this generator. Everything works. It starts easily. The wheels are large enough that it's very portable. All is good.

5,000 watts continuous--needs battery, June 3, 2010 By Ron PA

I just started it for the first time today and I think I'm about an average adult male and I managed to get it going with the recoil start--slow pull to compression stroke, depress decompression lever, two hands, foot on tire, get around that frame tube, pull hard. A few pulls to get a chug or two then increasingly more chugging time per pull until it was revving and dying continuously and belching smoke for a minute and then finally running steady with clear exhaust; probably clearing air from the fuel system caused all the roughness and smoke.

I didn't wear earplugs at first and noticed things were a little too quiet when I left the generator so I put some in.

It was 80*F today so I think it'll need a battery for cold weather; I see a "preheat" setting on the key-switch.--NO BATTERY INCLUDED--is conveniently omitted from the info. The manual recommends a battery of 36-38 amp/hours though I just got the most powerful battery that fit the tray. A supervisor at Lowe's wouldn't wave the $7 trade-in charge saying their generators came with batteries (nyaa, nyaa, nyaa for not buying ours), the jerk. Starting with the battery was quick and easy.

A sticker on the generator says 5,000 watts continuous so I'll consider that the real rating instead of the 5,500 sometimes claimed. If I remove the water heater fuses it should handle everything in the house though I'll need to restrict the stove/oven to single burner/heating element use.

I'm using regular home heating oil (from downstream of the filter) which in my area is presently formulated the same as offroad diesel fuel but I'll keep an eye out in case the EPA decides to reformulate that the way they did highway diesel.

Didn't need a key for recoil start but did for battery start and I couldn't find one in the nuts & bolts bag but found that my truck cap key worked and could be removed with the generator running.

Diesel engines are supposed to make very little carbon monoxide so I got 7' of 1.5" dia. steel flex-tube to plumb the exhaust into my flue and run it in my basement so scumbags can't snatch it from the yard the way they've done to others during catastrophes and also to make use of the heat in cold weather. Soundproofing will be desirable, and probably a CO detector.

The manual is somewhat confusing which is why I gave the generator 4 stars instead of 5, but it's not as bad as many chinese products and I know a little about engines so I think I'll manage the maintenance ok.

Where are the hurricanes, December 12, 2009 By Christopher J. Wallace "AmazonFan" (US and Europe)

Now I have a genset we have no Hurricanes!!!! I've powered up the gen a number of times, it's noisey but not crazy, it takes load very well and barely uses fuel.

Very good buy.

NOTE It comes with a cover.

Great Generator, May 19, 2009 By G. Wright
(REAL NAME)

Bought this generator without shopping around due to an emergency, but am very happy with my purchase. I didn't want a diesel generator, because I don't have anything else that runs on diesel, but this generator has changed my mind. The extended run time of a diesel generator over gasoline is reason enough to go with diesel. This thing runs for 12 hours on a 3 gallon tank of diesel! It is quite loud, but no more so than any other generator. I tried to run it in my detached garage, but the fumes quickly starved the generator for air and it died. This thing is a tank at 350 pounds, it is quite heavy. It runs both my sump pumps, fridge, lights, furnace, and television without a problem. My only complaint, and this is a small one, was that apparently they test them at the factory and then shipped them with diesel in the fuel line, which during shipping clogged the injectors, and initially it would not start. The dealer did replace the injector for free at purchase, and it runs great since then. I guess I would recommend monthly startups for maintenance to keep the injector clean, and it wouldn't hurt to add some diesel fuel additive.

Works reliablly and quietly for 3 years+
, November 11, 2011 By Sp Darren "spdarren" (Southern Maine)

I have owned this generator for almost four years. I live in Maine, where winters can be harsh, so a generator is as important as snow tires around here.

We do not lose power often, but when we do, the generator has performed perfectly each time. I custom-made a wire so that I could plug the generator into my transfer switch, and give power to our home when needed. Granted, it does not power everything in the house - it is a 125V 2500 Watt/20 Amp model, which is a relatively small generator. That said, running lights, TV, Satellite, fan-forced gas fireplace can all run at the same time. If we need to operate the toaster, microwave, or coffee maker (all run at about 1200 Watts continuous), we just need to ensure to use only one of those items at a time, and for good measure we unplug the fridge temporarily, so as not to overload the generator. This may sound like an inconvenience, but it is a lot less inconvenient than freezing your butt off in your own home during a snow or ice storm.

What is extemely important when operating this, or any other gasoline generator, is regular maintenance. It is all in the owners manual, that being: checking the oil before each use, oil changes (I changed mine every six months, regardless of usage), cleaning the air filter, spark plug changes, starting the generator up and running it every few weeks for 15 to 20 minutes at a time, closing the fuel valve and leave the choke open when not in use, keeping the generator clean, warm it up for a few minutes before plugging electrical components into it, only plug in one high wattage item at at a time, waiting for the machine to run smoothly before plugging in the next one, and do not overload it.

I own many small engine items, such as a lawn tractor, chain saw, lawn mower, chipper-shredder, and more. When I use this generator, I still cannot get over how quiet (relatively) it runs. I would not want to have a romantic dinner conversation sitting next to the machine, but whenever the power goes out in my neighborhood, where lots are one to seven acres, I can hear my neighbors' generators echoing more so than my own.

The manufacturer states that this machine can run "8 Hours at 1/2 Load on 4 Gallons of Fuel." Much to my surprise, however, during an ice storm in 2008, we once ran the generator for 16 hours without running out of gas. Granted, we were probably not running it at full or probably even half-load, but I was still amazed.

In addition, this machine has 12 Volt leads on it, so I have used it to jump start my car (dead battery) on ocassion.

The engine is made in China, which one would probably guess with the low price. The engine manufacturer is Chongqing Dajiang Power Equipment. Their engines are used all over the world for every kind of small combustion engine imaginable, from generators to motorcycles. I cannot comment on the reliablility of their other products, but this generator has performed well. I have not needed to buy any replacement parts for it yet (other than the spark plug), but you can buy them from All Power America, or Sears Parts Direct.

Following the same guidelines that you would follow to take care of your car, lawn mower, or any other gasoline powered engine, will likely give you years of reliable usage from this fine piece of equipment.

Easy to Operate/Be Aware of Possible Problem, September 24, 2011 By L. Stellato (CT)
(REAL NAME)

Used this machine for the first time during Hurricane Irene. This was the first time that I operated a generator and I found the instructions very easy to follow. The instructions are printed in the manual and on the machine. It holds 4 gallons of gasoline so it can run continuously for a long time before refueling. I think the longest that I let it run was 11 hours! Note, however, that there is an issue with the oil. After about 35 hours of running time, the machine stopped running. I called the 1-800 service number (good thing I had phone service) and the people there (who were very helpful) seemed quite aware of this problem. They told me to change the oil and try running it again. The manual says to change the oil after 50 hours.) This did not solve the problem. Once again contacted them and was told to disconnect the oil sensor wire, start the machine and let run 10 minutes, and reconnect. (They explained exactly where everything was located.) This didn't totally solve the problem, but my brother was able to get it going again. The oil level switch may be faulty. Also note, when we changed the oil, it was completely black, so I think that the next time I use it, I will make it a point to change the oil after maybe 30 hours. I should also note that the noise level is not bad; it is quieter than many I've heard.

Love mine..., July 20, 2011 By Benjamin Kopp "Malisaw" (Gainesville, GA)
(REAL NAME)

I live in a subdivision where the main road has pine trees lining a little hill with the power lines below them. Regular we lose power so out of frustration I purchased one of these (elsewhere) - same model. I have used it three times thus far - maximum continuous time was for 13 hours. It specifically states in the manual not to run things like TV's without a filter because it does not produce a sine wave (something like that)... Well - we were seriously bored the night we used it the longest so I went ahead and hooked up the following:

Full Size Fridge/Freezer combo, Full size stand up freezer, small fan, two lights, 2 satellite boxes, 1 42" LCD TV and 1 32" LCD TV. Little thing ran like a champ! Never noticed the light dim when adding additional things (TV's/Sat. boxes were the last added) or when the fridge or freezer cycled. Cranks up fairly easy (each time it's taken about 3-4 pulls) and runs a good 9 hours at least with the above (minus the TV's...filled it before bed time and it ran 9 hours and still had a quarter tank almost).

Couldn't be happier so far - total run time around 24 hours to date.

Only complaint would be the lack of wheels and the fact that if you add wheels you void the warranty. This sucker weighs in at around 100lb I believe EMPTY. Not what I'd really call "portable". Fortunately I only have to move it about 10 feet when I need to use it.

Not only would I buy it again, I've recommended it to family members.

Used First Time, July 15, 2011 By Gold Dog
I purchased one of these generators in March of 2010 and put it in my back garage still in the box. Living in the Chicago area we just went 5 days with no power.(July 2011). I opened the box and the pet-cock had been broken in transport. I rigged up a gas tank off of my snow blower to the carb and started it up. It took a few trys to get it going but then I ran it pretty much non-stop for 5 days with no problems. Having a smaller gas tank to use was a pain and I had to refill it every 90 minutes or so and it would run dry at night. After filling the tank again it started every time with one or two pulls. Use the choke and then flip it right open once it is running. For the first start I had to use the choke and let it run a bit rough for about 45 seconds and then play with opening the choke to get it going. It runs at high revs all the time and I gather that is standard with the less expensive models.

All in all, for my purpose, i.e., to use during rare power outages, it is a good value. Don't know about the above review re;the voltage regulator.

If I need to use it again in the next couple of years I will update this review.

Awesome, buy now, wont regret it, October 31, 2011 By Ayesha A. Khan "umm_m_m" (01844) (REAL NAME)

This is an amazing product.
We loose power very often in North East due to storms knocking down power lines and trees.
The generator starts the first time every time.
The self start battery charges itself when used. The push button start is amazing.
3 of my friends have borrowed it multiple times when they lost power, they loved it.
They ran it for days (maybe 3-5) each multiple times and it ran flawlessly.
My sister bought one for her own house, and it runs flawlessly.

I would give it 10 out of 10.

It is not that heavy, does not require maintenance. Just put gas and hit the start button. Thats it.
Right now 3Million people do not have electricity in North East. But this generator is humming along at our friends house.
It also hummed along at my sister's house until they got main power back from the street.
In the middle of the storm they lost power, I started their generator for them and thats it. They got their life back as if nothing happened.

It produces enough power to power our 1.5 HP sump pump, all blowers for heating units, 4 rooms, TV, modems, routers, garage doors, septic pump, well water pump, all safety equipment for heat and hot water, all at the same time.

Great product. Highly recommend it
High Fives to the entire engineering team who designed this.

Great Purchase

Assembled easily although it was missing one of the axle brackets. I contacted Honeywell and they said they would ship one out to me once they got some. Haven't receive that yet but I just held the axle in place with a piece of wire for the time being. Started right up and ran well. Haven't tried it with any load yet. Not what I would consider quiet as one person had reviewed it. I would recommend to others. The part I was interested in was that it had the inverter that items actually get power from instead of just the generator so hopefully there won't be any brown outs or power spikes.

Great deal for the money
, February 24, 2011 By Todd S.

I bought my generator in February 2011. It took exactly one week to arrive. The ABF truck delivered on time but I had to help unload. They called in advance to let me know that their lift truck was broke and would be a few days late so I said I would help unload. The driver carted it to my garage and helped unpack and inspect for any damage. The generator was fine but the box had seen better days. It had a hole punched in it and the bottom flaps were loose.
Issues I had with assembly was with the wheel axel. One of the brackets came loose from the packaging and got stuck in the bottom of the box flap. I was ready to call the manufacturer when I decided to go thru every one more time. Luckily it did not fall out of the box during shipping. I had to make a trip to my local hardware store because I was missing two of the washers that go on either side of the wheels. Everything else during assembly went well. I don't understand why they send that small funnel. The only way that thing would work is if you laid the machine on it's side and add the oil that way. Like all the reviews said, a long funnel works best. Adding the fuel was a challenge also. Because the gas opening is in the middle of the tank, my gas can nozzle can not reach it without spilling all over the place. A large, tall funnel works well for refueling.
Of course the battery was dead but this thing started on the first pull! I let it run for twenty minutes and this was enough to charge the battery to start it the second time. Overall, a very good machine for the money.

Perfect standby home generator. Starts easy. Comes up to voltage and frequency fast. Voltage is steady. Will accept typical house motor loads and recovers quickly. Good quality. Great value.

Reliable Generator

I bought this generator and a transfer kit package to provide backup power to our home. The generator came shipped in good shape and was easy to set up. The only bad things I see with the generator and its design is the placement of the place you put the oil ad the cheapness of some of the parts. I know I bought a lower cost generator compared to Honda's, etc ... so I expected some cheaper parts, but the opening for the oil is VERY hard to access without a funnel. Really poor design by Honeywell. Now here are the plusses: since some of the parts are a little cheaper, I put the generator under a tailgating tent when I have a power failure in my home to avoid rain or snow getting on the generator. Some of the parts will corrode rather quickly due to cheap components, so it is best to protect them the best you can. I have to say I have used to generator about 4 times since I have had it, and this past week we had a power outtage in a snow storm for abut 48 hours. The generator performed perfectly. It ran straighte for 48 hours with no issues. The fuel economy was suprisingly good! It would run easily overnight for 8+ hours without running low on gas (and with minimal load of course) and it kept our heat running all night long. During the day we run a lot of things: Heat and hot water heater (both Oil powered), sump pump, septic system, well pump, 1 refrigerator, all of the lights and outlets in our kitchen (no range), the family room lights and TV, select lights throughout the house, and our alarm system. You cant go wrong for the price! just take care of the generator, change the oil, and keep it out of the elements and I think it will last a long time!

I purchased this generator and it was delivered on schedule by freight. it was easy to put together and the following day the generator was put into action. An auto accident down the street caused an outage for approx one hour. The generator started right up and ran great. Since then I used it again for another snow related outage. As generators go this one is pretty quiet. Happy I purchased this unit.

Great value for the price, January 24, 2012 By Brian R. Hurley "Indy constructor" (Indianapolis, Indiana)
(REAL NAME)

Purchase my Champion 2000 watt at Sams Club in Indianapolis Indiana, for $299 + tax and it is fantastic. I took ten minutes to read the excellent manual, filled with oil and gas and it started second pull. I am a contractor and have used it during the last 2 weeks on several projects where 11v was not available. It has two 110v outlets and provided steady power for a large hammer drill and other tools without missing a beat. Its built very well and the design prevents most of the generator from damage and rain. It has low noise levels even when its not idling in econ mode. Manual has a large parts list and I expect the service/help to match the products quality.

Honda & Yamaha watch out!, January 4, 2012 By Kevin (Los Angeles, CA)

I purchased this generator from Costco for use with my Coach when dry camping. Much cheaper to run than my larger on board diesel generator. I was unable to use this right out of the box. After a quick call to Champion Power, I had it up and running after having to make a short pig-tail due to the floating ground in portable generators. So far, this generator has been able to power my inverter/charger in Bulk mode, Coffee Maker as well as our 1800 watt Microwave/Convection oven (I had to make sure that charger was turned off first, no other loads were on during this test.) This generator has just as much power as my friends EU2000i. My only regret is that I did not purchase this sooner. For the money, I would rather buy two of these and link them together for double the power of the EU2000i. This generator should save me over $20 a day from running my diesel generator. I figure it will pay for itself the first year. BTW, the customer support at Champion is EXCELLENT! Can the same thing be said about Yamaha and Honda?

Great gens for the money!, December 14, 2011 By Kozz

I was lucky enough to be able to get two of these at Sams Club for $299 each as they lower the price as their stock dwindles.I also picked up the Parallel kit($59 at Costco) to combine the two units power .These were purchased mainly to power our new Toy Hauler/RV when "dry camping". They are impressively quiet!Just as quiet as my buddies Honda 2000i.One does the job but have to run two for 15,000 btu a/c.That's exactly what I expected.Power management is key with any unit like these...power up largest items to "running watts" first and then down to smaller items. To me the units work flawless and along with the gens from Sams, I bought their extended 3 yr. warranty which even covers "normal wear and tear" for $39 a unit.4 years bumper to bumper warranty!I have used Sams warranty in the past and its been great. So,out the door was for the two units, parallel kit,ex. warranty $700!I am the proverbial "Happy Camper"!Great product even at 500-600 bucks a unit considering the other options out there.

Qiet, reliable, economical, December 6, 2011 By juliannah

We purchased this generator for our 29' trailer. I run computer equipment, printers, television and more and it has been reliable and economical. I especially like the econ mode. We can run it up to 9hrs without adding gas. It runs quiet too. Our camping neighbors come by to look at it because it is so quiet. It is also light enough where I can move it when my husband is not around. It is also carb compliant, which is difficult to find a generator with all these qualities and at an affordable price.

One of the best items I've ever bought for camping!, November 24, 2011 By mr.wings

My wife and I have done a lot of research before we finally decided to take the risk to get this no name brand inverter generator. I was very skeptical and was ready to send it right back if it turned out to be as bad as some reviewers rated this generator.
But here I am, sitting under the stars dry camping in the beautiful Californian Desert to write this review: electricity provided by the amazing Champion 2000! This thing does exactly what it is advertised to do: It generates up to 2000 Watts starting power, and can handle continuous loads of 1600 Watts with no problem. My wife has a 1800 Watts hair dryer as well as a 1800 Watts iron. The generator has no problems with it. It starts right up every time, and the fuel economy is astounding. It runs up to 16 hours on 1 gallon in economy mode. It is quiet. With a long extension cord running in economy you don't hear more than a humming sound outside. We have had it for about 100 hours of running time, and I have done an oil change as recommended. That was all I had to do so far. This is one of the best investments we have made so far for our camping trips! Highly recommended!

Great unit, November 9, 2011 By dave

Bought two of these. The first fired up right away and worked great. Ran our pump for the house heating, fridge, two full fish tanks with heaters, and a bunch of lights. 10 hours on a tank and fairly quiet. A brilliant little machine that is easy enough to start that my 9 year old daughter was able to do it. The second wouldn't run everything. Bummed about that, but tech support is working with me and has assured me they will take care of this, so all in all a great product.

Great Value, Quiet, November 6, 2011 By MattW

I bought this generator to power a 1200 watt sound system, laptop and some lights for weekends of outdoor camping/partying. It has only been used for one 3 day weekend so far but it will definitely be back for more. I ran the unit for 3 days straight drawing about 1000 watts on average the entire time. During this time it used less then 4 gallons of gas and never had to be taken off economy mode. Several people came up to me and commented about how quiet it was. From reading many reviews before purchasing the gold standard in inverter generators of this size seems to be the Honda EU2000i. From what I have seen so far this unit delivers identical performance for less than half the price.

Highly recommend!

Great Generator, October 9, 2011 By Phil

I have an older 28 ft. class C - RV with a 4000 watt Onan generator built in. I'v been having trouble with the Onan and replaced many parts and still having difficulty getting it to run properly I purchased the Champion 7351 2,000 Watt generator at Costco for $480.00 with an instant rebate of $40.00. Tried it for two weekends camping on the ocean.
Works great...It Charged my house battery, worked my refrig, TV , heater motor and surround sound .Starts right up and very quiet. I will be purchasing another so I can run both together with the $69.00 kit to run the roof top air conditioner in the summer.

5 Star Product thusfar..., January 7, 2012 By Christin M. De Meo "RN" (Glen Rock, NJ USA)
(REAL NAME)

Perfect thusfar...test run only out-of-box after grounding (copper rod, wire and clamp) and fueling (oil/gas)with Sta-bil (essential in order to have ready to use during power failures to protect gas from degrading.
Running sound pretty good for this size generator outdoors about 25ft. away from house.
Haven't used for power outage yet, just break-in running time 30mins. for 3 days. Extremely easy start-up 1-2 pulls without stalling. (without load thusfar) Recommend starting and running for 20mins every 2 weeks when not in use, though manual states every 30days.
Very affordable price for this type of power.
IMPORTANT to set-up immediately upon receiving item...Smaller ETQ TG1200 leaked out of box just out of warranty still hoping to resolve...review and updates on ETQ product page.
Smaller Steel genny worked out-of-box nicely and during 2 power outages. Recommend Steel and Champion generators at this point.

Sweet Machine!, December 6, 2011 By Skip Thomsen "riverguy" (Forestville, CA United States)

First day with the generator, so I'll post some updates as I put it to the test of supplying our home with emergency power when we get our inevitable winter disruptions. Ok, so you know, I've been around all kinds of power equipment for more years than most of you have been alive, and am intimately familiar with most of it. After reading a gazillion reviews on generators, I bought this one because it gets raves from just about everybody. I did some research on the company, and they seem to be operating with uncommon integrity.

So I unpacked the generator, sat down and read the manual (I always do that), topped up the oil, added a gallon of fresh fuel, turned on the ignition, gas valve and the choke. Then I was going to pull the engine through once or twice gently before the real pull that would start it, but hey, it started half way through the first pull! After half a minute, I turned off the choke and the engine ran smoothly.

There are lots of opinions on the noise level. I started it in my shop, where I have run many other small engines, and this one qualifies as one of the quietest. WAY quieter than the Honda-powered pressure washer I had just been servicing. Actually, there is more (normal) engine/mechanical noise than exhaust noise, so once outside where it's supposed to be anyway, it will be a lot quieter without hard walls to echo the noise.

After about five minutes of running, I plugged in a few tools, among them a 1500W heat gun. The engine sound difference was barely discernible and the voltage stayed right on.

I talked to a tech guy on these generators and he said the one biggest issue people have with them is they leave old fuel in the tank when the machine is in storage for months on end. Adding a fuel stabilizer intended to keep our new alcohol-laced gasoline stable is key. I'm going to run it for 5 hours and then change the oil to Mobil 1 full synthetic. I use this oil in all my small engines (and in my vehicles and even in my Harley) and I have no engine problems.

BTW, I got this idea from another reviewer but it bears reposting: To open the box, I cut all around the bottom about a half-inch off the floor. Then I just lifted off the whole box that is now my storage cover. Neat.

I'll post an update after some good running hours, but so far, this little generator is A-1.

Great Deal, WAY louder than advertised!, July 24, 2011 By Tom Sherry "Playa Monkey" (San Jose, CA USA)
(REAL NAME)

I bought this genny for Burning Man 2011. We will be using it to charge Batteries and run Air Conditioning on super hot days! I just set up the genny, some easy assembly and we were ready to fire it up! Choked, it sounded like I was beating a Tin Can! 100 or so db (db = decibel, a measurement to sound)! Turned off the choke and it's likely at 80+ db which is a far cry from the 68 db advertised. I'm breaking it in for 10 hours or so before heading out there. It has been running solid for 4 hours and seems very solid so far. If it wasin't for the noise I would give it 5 stars so far. I made a YouTube of the set up and starting process
